What’s the point of a having a flexible work schedule if you, yourself, aren’t flexible?
My daughter, Ylvie, won a role on a film project. The first table read was scheduled on Sunday… in Atlanta! She just performed 3 shows of Wizard of the Oz, Friday and Saturday nights. Mom and daughter were both exhausted!
My first thought: There is no way I’d be able to pull this off.
But then I thought: Let’s go for it! Let’s have a little adventure!
We trekked it to Atlanta for the table read and got back to Charleston this morning. Ylvie did an incredible job reading her lines in front of a room full of strangers. We are excited for the actual filming!
This was all made possible by working for a company that has flexible hours and values work life balance. Every day, I am grateful I switched to engineering after a 10-year nursing career.
Was I tempted to say no because of how much effort it would take to get her there? Yes! But I usually work from the comfort of my home all the time. Why not do something a little spontaneous sometimes?
Am I tired from driving? Yes! Was it worth it? YES!
After the table read, I told Ylvie, “You did a fabulous job! You killed it!”
She said, “Of course, Mom. I’m a professional.”
And so am I! I’m a professional and a mom. I’m doing both and showing my daughter what is possible if you take chances.
