Make a Habit Stick with Streaks: How My Daughter and I Build Habits
After getting COVID for the second time this July, I’ve had a lingering cough (Yup. It’s still lingering.) and haven’t been able to run. Consequently, I got into the habit of staying inside and working for hours straight without a break, which is awful for mental sharpness when you are a software engineer. I realized that just because I can’t run right now, it doesn’t mean I can’t go for walks.
A friend suggested using Streaks to make walking a habit. I was keen on trying a new kind of tracking system since I use a paper and pen tracker for my writing habits. Simultaneously, when I downloaded Streaks, I was also at the start of making time for spiritual habits.
Thirty-five days later, I’m still using Streaks and am on a streak!
My daughter, Ylvie, became intrigued by Streak’s simple and bright UI design. It didn’t win an Apple Design Award for nothing. I asked her if she wanted to create her own daily goals.
She said, “Yes!”
Together, we came up with her goals:
1. Read a book every day
2. Name 5 things she is grateful for every day
3. Do homework (Monday — Friday)
4. Learn a language (French) for 30 minutes a day (Monday — Friday)
I am super proud of her!
The app is $4.99 and absolutely worth the five bucks.
It is a great addition to our goal tracking as a family.
How do you track your habits? I’m a tracker and love gathering data on myself. I’m open to new ways to optimize my performance.
